Inspired by dance as a young girl, Elena embarked on her movement journey with inspiration from contemporary and freestyle dance ( Beverley Hammond). She then commenced her fitness studies from 2004. Elena is a qualified personal and group fitness instructor. She is a qualified spinning (mad dog) trainer, as well a qualified Pilates trainer through Stellenbosch University. She has also learned from other leading experts in the field through various workshops - Colleen Craig , Stott principal, Patricia Lamond).
Elena has freelanced in many gyms and studios around Cape Town ( zen studio, zone fitness, Virgin active, Planet Fitness) She now also gives private lessons from the comfort of your own home. She has also worked for Ajax Cape Town as a spin and core trainer to help with pre - season training and recovery.
After her many years in the field she has evolved the Pilates principle of exercise and eccentric muscle movement into the use of aerial hammock silks.
Her philosophy is that movement is medicine. It not only helps the body to become stronger and more functional but also one’s emotions and mind. Elena makes it her aim to help her clients find their best body in function, flexibility and strength.
Elena Calligeris alongside her husband Theo Calligeris is also the director of Sports Science Physiotherapy Centre and Sports Science Massage Centre.
